The inventors of these ‘My Family’ stick figure printed stickers, Monica Liebenow and Phil Barhan from the Gold Coast, have sold more than two million of the figures, which include, ‘Barbecue Dad,’ and ‘Shopping Mum’ as well as stickers of pets and children. The business has become so successful that the couple are exporting to Asia and the United Kingdom and are planning to include more countries from South America and Eastern Europe.
Critic of the stickers, Kellie, who is the author of the blog Gen X Journey says that:
“The stickers are smug and self-satisfied with no ‘overweight mummy’ and the stickers prefer to show ‘tennis playing teen’ to ‘emo devil possessed teen.”
Ms Leibenow, who lives near Slacks Creek, defended the stickers by saying that they allow people to show what their family are like and that:
“Customers have sent in photos of sticker collages of lesbian mums with babies and single surfers with dogs. I just think that people are genuinely proud.”
If the idea of making stickers out of your family appeals to you, you can get ‘My Family’ to send you representations of your family but if you are one of the people who find it all a bit cute, you can always go to your local Print company and they should be able to help you design your very own personalised sticker.
