City of Brisbane residents, including tennis fans in Fortitude Valley, will be on the doorstep of all the action on centre court at the upcoming Brisbane International 2016.
The event will see a procession of top ranked tennis players led by champion of 17 grand slams Roger Federer, who will be returning to defend his title, and women’s defending champion Maria Sharapova.
Kate Jones, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, said the Brisbane International was a drawcard to tennis fans across the nation, and many were expected to travel to Brisbane to cheer on their favourite players.
She said the list of local and international tennis players set to compete was very impressive and exciting.
The lineup includes Queensland’s own Sam Stosur and world top four player Kei Nishikori.
Jones said the major tennis tournament was a highlight of the events calendar in Queensland, and in 2015 it attracted more than 100,000 people.
