Nostalgic singer-songwriter to come to Fortitude Valley

Music fans of yesteryear in the Fortitude Valley area may be keen to buy tickets for the Don McLean 50th Anniversary Tour at the beginning of April. Popular music events are often advertised within the local community by the prodigious use of poster printing.

As a youngster born in 1945, McLean missed significant periods of school due to chronic asthma, and he used the time to listen to music and records. His love of music flourished, which ultimately led to him being one of the most revered songwriters of the 20th century, with a string of huge hit singles.

These include Vincent, Castles in the Air and, mostly famously, American Pie, which is about American teenage culture and is regarded by the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the top five songs of the 20th century. Many artists have recorded from McLean’s back catalogue, including Drake, Madonna and Garth Brooks. His music is often licensed to advertisements and films.

Dave Simpson, of The Guardian (UK), says about McLean’s tour:

“McLean’s own Castles in the Air is lovely, and hearing him sing Vincent – his youthful eulogy to Van Gogh – is magical, a bucket-list moment.”

The 50th Anniversary Tour of Don McLean takes place on Saturday 1st April at 6.30pm. The venue is the Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane. Tickets cost from $110.30. Don McLean will be supported by Andrew Farriss.
