Noir theatre performance headed to Fortitude Valley

An arts venue based in Fortitude Valley will host a noir genre performance later this year.

A new play written by Robert Kronk, with Bridget Boyle directing – called Death in a Statesman – will be performed at the popular Judith Wright Arts Centre.

Following the award-winning success of the play “The Longest Minute”, Boyle and Kronk have turned their hands to a noir genre tale with a local Queensland twist. Theatre houses and arts centres can sometimes use flyer printing services to create bespoke leaflets advertising future shows to those attending performances.

Set in Bundaberg, the play follows Cliff, a man who has lost his job and wife and struggles to reconcile with his estranged daughter while navigating local politics, family drama and a possible murder case. His daughter Elliot, meanwhile, is finishing year 12 and doing fine until Cliff turns up and the town mayor dies suspiciously.

Combining generational change and mysterious circumstances, Death in a Statesman is now being developed with assistance from Allen Laverty, a regular collaborator of the writer and director.

Death in a Statesman will run from November 9 until November 13 at Fortitude Valley’s Judith Wright Arts Centre on 420 Brunswick Street, which is located at the corner of Berwick Street. The performances will start at 7.30pm, with tickets priced between $22 and $33.
