Influential Scottish band to play in Fortitude Valley

Fans of rock music in the Fortitude Valley area will no doubt be pleased to know that revered Scottish band will be playing at the Fortitude Music Hall in January, as part of an Australian tour, the first for seven years.

The band was formed in in Glasgow in 1982 by Bobby Gillespie on vocals and Jim Beattie on guitar. With indie roots, the band became more psychedelic, with garage rock and dance music influences. The album Screamadelica brought mainstream recognition; it was released in 1991 and won the first Mercury Music Prize, in the UK. Subsequently, the band has dallied with industrial rock, trip hop and blues. The most recent album, Come Ahead, was released in November 2024 and is the bands twelfth album, complete with some of Gillespie’s most personal songwriting to date. Gillespie says of the album:



“I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record.”




Many current bands and singers, such as Dua Lipa and Fontaines D.C. have cited Primal Scream as influential.
