Iconic markets reopen bigger and better in the Valley

Shoppers are flocking to Queensland’s Fortitude Valley to experience the revamped and newly opened Valley Markets.

Signs have been erected to show the way to the revitalised and new look Markets, which are located in the Brunswick Street and Chinatown Mall.

Visitors can experience the latest in handmade goods, arts and crafts, clothing, accessories, jewellery and artisan goods at the markets, which also host art installations, food stalls, live entertainment, themed and licensed dining areas, creative pop-up activations and vintage markets.

A spokesman for the organisers, Iconic Productions and Events, said revitalising the 20-year-old Valley markets, which are one of the oldest in Brisbane, has breathed new life into the venue.

He said it now has a new vibe, new layout and new management, which is a combination that will provide the markets with an opportunity to put its own twist on the area’s thriving fashion, arts and entertainment scene.

This is an area, he said, which is noted as the place where many internationally acclaimed bands, including The Bee Gees, played at the beginning of their careers.

The spokesman added that the new look markets also reflected Fortitude Valley’s retail history from the early 1900s when the area hosted a wide variety of fabric draper stores. It was here, he said, the Valley’s tradition with fashion, design and clothing really began.

The Valley Markets open every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
