Fortitude Valley celebrates the year of the rooster

Chinatown Mall in Fortitude Valley will come alive with fun and colour, with partying and fun for the Chinese Lunar New Year. This year is the Year of the Rooster and revellers will celebrate the day with traditional Chinese music and dance, performers will be roaming among the crowd and food and drink stalls will also be present along with other market stalls. Hundreds of people are expected to attend over the weekend and have the opportunity to learn more about Asian culture and appreciate the multicultural variety of people in the community.

Chinese New Year, which is also known in China as the Spring Festival, is recognised as the most important event in the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated each year with much pageantry. Performances will include lion dancers and fire shows, along with other traditional displays. The carnival atmosphere would not be complete without the Chinese New Year Parade.

There is likely to be banner printing used by the organisers to add to the festive colour of the event.

Chinese Lunar New Year will be celebrated on Saturday 28th January, from 5.00pm to 10.00pm and Sunday 29th January from 12.00pm to 5.00pm in the Chinatown Mall in Brunswick Street at Fortitude Valley. Attendance will be free and open to visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
