Creative Christmas collaboration to come to Fortitude Valley

Creative Christmas-lovers in the Fortitude Valley area may be keen to sign up for the Stone and Wood collaboration with ceramicist Carys Martin in December. Workshops will often display Promotional Products as a means of advertising upcoming events to the local community.

Hailing originally from Banks, Cumbria, and with an artistic mother, Carys Martin grew up surrounded by creativity. Martin was lucky enough to be an acquaintance of Li Yuan-Chia, who founded the LYC Museum (1971-1982) in the village, featuring stellar artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Andy Goldsworthy. She spent many a day happily playing in the museum, drawing in the Children’s Art Space, and exploring.

Martin has been working in ceramics since 2008 and has a background in Print design. Martin is fond of exposing contrasts in her ceramic pieces, such as using shiny glazes in juxtaposition with raw clay, for example. Exhibiting in the UK, Australia and America and with her pieces stocked in many stores, Martin also teaches workshops in order to give tutees the opportunity to make something beautiful that tells a story.

In the workshop, participants will make a Christmas bell that can be fashioned with cutters or made completely freehand. The bell will then be under-glazed before being dried, clear-glazed and fired.

The Ceramic Christmas Decorations workshops takes place at Stone and Wood, 99 Bridge Road, Fortitude Valley on Sunday 4th December, from 9.30 until 11.30am. Cost is $95, to include all materials and a drink.
