Awards celebrate business excellence

The Fortitude Music Hall in Fortitude Valley has received the Port of Brisbane Award for Investment in Brisbane in the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards for 2019.

Announced recently during a gala ceremony held at City Hall, the 14th annual awards attracted more than 650 members of the city’s diverse business community, as well as special guest Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

The award for ‘Business Person of the Year’ went to Vita Group co-founder and CEO Maxine Horne who Councillor Schrinner described as exuding a passion and leadership that was inspirational. He added:

“At the helm of Vita Group since 1995, Ms Horne has guided the company’s growth from Australia’s first mobile phone retailer Fone Zone to a leading publicly listed company with a network of brands ranging from telecommunications to medical aesthetics and athletic wear.”


Hutchinson Builders Chairman, Scott Hutchinson was the recipient of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ after he led the way for the creation of a building company that has become the largest privately-owned company of its type in Australia.

In addition Hutchison’s investments in the Fortitude Music Hall and The Triffid have assisted in maintaining a thriving music scene in Brisbane. People attending business award nights such as this often take along Business Cards, as they provide many opportunities for networking.

The 12 award categories presented on the night ranged from ‘Young Business Person of the Year’ and ‘High-Growth Business Start-Up’ to ‘Outstanding Social Enterprise’ and ‘Environmental Sustainability in Business’.
