Top street art murals on display

Two new street murals have been unveiled at high visitor traffic locations within the city of Liverpool.

Undertaken in conjunction with the Street Art Mural Project, which is run by the Liverpool Youth Council, the murals embrace and reflect specific messages of ‘heritage’ and ‘home’. They were created following an initiative by the youth council, which invited mural designs that stood to enhance the city centre's aesthetics while also capturing its location, rapid growth and diversity as a destination of new beginnings and hope.

Mayor of Liverpool, Wendy Waller, said the winning mural, submitted by Phu Nguyen and entitled ‘Home’, can be viewed in the forecourt area of the Liverpool City Library, where it is showcased on a wall shared by the library and the Francis Greenway Centre.

Justin Michael, another local artist, focused on the area's cultural diversity in the creation of his mural, which can be found in Moore Street adorning the amenities building, close to the water play area in Bigge Park.

Images of local attractions such as these have often appeared on local Postcards and Promotional Products as part of strategic marketing campaigns.

Mayor Waller said that selecting a winner from the two top entries was difficult and led to both being put on display. She added:

“These murals reinforce our city as home to people of all walks of life and pay homage to our heritage and the cultural richness of people who make Liverpool what it is today."

The murals are now available for the public to view in Liverpool.
