A chance to help shape the vision for the new airport at Badgerys Creek is on offer to students at primary schools in Liverpool and throughout Western Sydney.
The innovative design contest, which is a joint venture between Liverpool City Council, Minecraft and the NSW Department of Education, will test the creative minds of the area’s youth as they seek to address real-world challenges relating to the massive infrastructure.
Their answers will be expressed through Minecraft and within its electronic building blocks. Students will be vying for up to $40,000 in prizes which can be put towards school technology and science projects.
The prize money includes a portion from the Western Sydney Airport (WSA) which will be taking part in the competition for the first time this year. CEO of WSA Graham Millett said the competition gave students an exciting learning opportunity and added:
“We can’t wait to see what their imaginative young minds will dream up for Western Sydney Airport.”
Graphic design and other printing services can be useful in assisting with creative projects.
Primary schools from throughout Western Sydney are invited to enter the competition. Training for teachers will be held in March before students begin working on individual projects during Term 2.
Submissions will be made online with top contenders then invited to make their presentations in August to industry experts who form the judging panel.
Further information about the competition can be found at the council’s website.
