Smart transit corridor to new airport plans unveiled

Early plans for a transit corridor that will effectively connect the city centre of Liverpool with the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport have been released recently.

Contained in Liverpool City Council's Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) Corridor Design Framework, the vision outlines a transit corridor that is sustainable and effectively links both locations with the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, according to Mayor Wendy Waller.

She said the vision is aimed at preserving the growing region's unique character, providing better public transport and reducing sprawl, and added:

“The corridor will be future proofed for emerging technologies such as trackless trams. It will be more than a critical transport link – it's also an opportunity to create new, sustainable communities along the route which are sensitive to their bushland and farming landscape."

Planning and design studio SJB created the Framework's design, which was launched during the Invest Liverpool business summit.

Events such as the summit provide ideal networking opportunities, including the exchange of Business Cards among business peers involved in projects such as the new airport.

A range of employment opportunities and housing types will be supported by the new corridor which also connect visitors, workers and residents with natural attractions such as local waterways and parklands.

Community feedback on Council's preferred corridor option design is expected to be called late in 2020 with the planned completion of the FAST Corridor scheduled for the 2026 opening of the new airport.
