Wendy Waller, Mayor of Liverpool, said the redevelopment of Apex Park has provided a functional and aesthetically appealing space to be enjoyed now and well into the future, and she added:
“As part of the works Council engaged an Excavation Director to supervise all archaeological activity and record in detail relics, structures and features discovered on the site."
The upgrade saw the introduction of a new playground for all ages that features shade structures and rubber soft fall, as well as new turf, tree planting, landscaped gardens, park furniture, shelters, picnic facilities, a memorial area and new pathways.
The mayor said the park's new tree plantings were part of the council's strategy towards developing a more active, vibrant and greener city centre, which was also sparking development across other parts of the city. This included the recent start of work on the construction of Stante Reserve Waterplay Park, which is being undertaken at Middleton Grange and is due for completion by March next year.
Popular community attractions such as these are often featured in brochure printing campaigns that promote many of the fun family-friendly local activities.
Major works that are also underway include the Lurnea Community Hub – Phillips Park, which is undergoing a major $16.2m redevelopment, as well as the $9m construction of Middleton Grange's Cirillo Sporting Facility.
