Economic benefits from the planned establishment of a major international airport at Badgerys Creek are already surfacing in Liverpool, New South Wales.
Mayor Ned Mannoun said following the Government announcement 12 months ago that the area had recorded significant investment activity.
Investor confidence, he said, had also been boosted by associated news of a federal and state road package worth $3.6bn.
The mayor said the proposed airport was already causing a regional transformation by stimulating economic growth.
Residential development applications, he said, had tripled in the city centre and included plans for 594 apartments in the CBD.
More than a dozen cranes have been working on current developments in the same area where in excess of 800 apartments have been constructed.
According to Mayor Mannoun, the building activity will create accommodation for an estimated 3,000 residents during the next 18 months, in addition to development applications currently under consideration.
Liverpool's location halfway between both the proposed second international airport at Badgerys Creek and Sydney airport is considered by the Mayor as a catalyst for attracting new investors and residents.
He said the nearby Georges River also provided untapped potential for smart investors.
While printing services are being kept busy with development applications in the CBD, Liverpool residential areas are also experiencing a rise in demand for housing.
Mayor Mannoun said work on major redevelopment projects, such as reconnecting the Georges River, with the city were also underway.
