Millions of dollars will be invested into Fairfield local government area’s largest club venue, Mounties, in the next few years.
An estimated $128m has been earmarked for the major revamp programme, which will consist of fourteen projects to be undertaken, subject to approval, during the next five years.
The Mt Pritchard-based club’s CEO Greg Pickering said the venue attracted people from Liverpool and surrounding areas, and its eventual aim was to become Sydney’s largest club facility.
Established in 1968, the club has grown to boast a staff of 500, as well as 200 contractors.
In 2015, approval was received from the Joint Regional Planning Panels to demolish 3 residences owned by Mounties in Cherry and Leo streets, along with the part removal of the club’s southern side and construction of an extension that included a function centre, auditorium and restaurants.
Newsletter printing by the club kept members and guests informed of the development process, which Pickering said has come together after four years of discussions and research to ascertain the needs and desires of the community. He said it was important to the club’s future success to provide what the members are seeking.
Pickering said work on the Café and Terrace Bar was due for completion in August, followed by the restaurant in time for Christmas. Mayor Frank Carbone said projects such as the revamp at Mounties had the bonus of boosting investment in the local area.
