Liverpool City libraries are gearing up for big celebrations to mark International Women’s Day 2017.
The event is an initiative of Liverpool City Council‘s educational and cultural activities and, according to the centre’s first female mayor Wendy Waller, will be a fitting way to showcase the area’s local services for women.
Marketing services are already promoting a host of activities organised to help celebrate Women’s Day, including dance, musical and spoken word performances.
Author Patti Miller will also conduct a writing workshop aimed at women to be held at the library in Carnes Hill.
Mayor Waller is delighted with the programme, which she says will celebrate the achievements and talents of local women.
The International Women’s Day Celebrations on March 8 will be spread across both Liverpool and Carnes Hill libraries, where visitors will be hosted to information stands, stalls, performances and free barbecues.
The Grass Arts company will showcase some of their creative art, while Street University members will display their broadly-based performance skills.
Local organisations will also mount a special services expo at which important services such as the Liverpool Women’s Health centre and Bonnie Support Services will be showcased.
Mayor Waller said there will also be an exciting announcement in regard to a new programme being launched by Council to support women in business.
She urged all genders to attend the Women’s Day events, which will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
