The Western Parkland City Liveability Programme will provide $2.04 million towards building a multi-purpose recreation area and playground in line with the redevelopment project’s first stage of works.
Council will be funding the management components of the project, the detailed design work which often includes a graphic design of the ultimate vision, and other remaining works. The total cost of the project is expected to be $4.61 million.
In welcoming the latest funding commitment, Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller said funding for the Liveability Programme is made possible through a joint agreement of the state government, commonwealth and councils from eight West Sydney areas.
She said the funds will revitalise Light Horse Park and bring a new focus towards Liverpool’s Georges River, adding:
“Light Horse Park will become a living bridge between the CBD and the river as well as a world-class recreation hub with sports fields, community facilities, playgrounds and gardens.”
The Western Parkland City Liveability Programme will see $40.9m shared between Wollondilly, Fairfield and Blue Mountains councils.
This latest investment is destined to firmly place Liverpool and the surrounding suburbs as Sydney’s liveability epicentre, according to Alan Tudge, Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Minister. He credited the Liveability Programme with transforming the Parkland City into one of Australia’s most liveable and vibrant places.
