Baby bundles given to new parents at Liverpool Hospital

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian recently presented new mother Lorna and baby Isidora with a $300 baby bundle gift from the NSW state government.

Baby Isidora was born at the Liverpool hospital earlier this month and the bundle gift was part of a state government initiative. From January 1st this year, 34,175 baby bundles have been given to new parents, with 1,156 bundles delivered to Liverpool Hospital.

Each baby bundle contains products that comply with Australian safety standards and includes a sleeping bag, a change mat, play mat and first aid kit, along with information on child and parental health issues. Print shops can create useful products that can be used as a resource for parents.

Parents receive their bundle prior to being discharged from hospital or once the birth has been registered with NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages. Berejiklian said every baby in NSW would receive a baby bundle and hopes it will assist families in the early stages of parenting when finances can be stretched thin.

The bundles are part of the funding recently allocated by the state government with $157 million to go towards a parenting package that provides practical as well as emotional support for parents. The initiative also includes increasing the numbers of midwives and family nurses as well as increasing the level of funding to both treat and test childhood diseases.
