Funded by the council, the scholarship provides $5,000 each for three students to help them achieve their career and education aspirations.
Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller said that teaming up with leading tertiary institutions and introducing initiatives like offering the scholarship are great ways to help provide better access to the region's educational opportunities. It also helps to make Liverpool a one-stop destination for exceptional education and reinforces it as a top place to study, invest, work and live. She added:
“Council and the University of Wollongong have a strong working relationship and are two of the partner organisations of the Liverpool Innovation Precinct, established to harness the city’s key strengths in health, research and education, and drive economic and jobs growth.”
Educational hubs have also helped to stimulate demand for many other business enterprises in the local area, such as Print shops and retail outlets.
UOW first, second and third year students at the campus can apply for the annual scholarship, which aims to assist in easing any financial pressures while also inspiring them to put their expertise back into the local area at some point in the future.
Applications are being accepted through UAC Equity until December 11, 2020.
