The news that WSA Co will open an office in Liverpool prior to the year’s end was announced recently by Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher.
Liverpool City Council Mayor Wendy Waller described the revelation as “the best possible news for Liverpool”.
She said the move has set the scene for an exciting future, which includes Liverpool’s establishment as the airport’s jumping-off point, and that the airport in Western Sydney is one of Australia’s biggest projects, adding.
“To have the headquarters of this $5.3bn operation in our CBD is a massive vote of confidence in our capacity to support this project.”
The Mayor is confident the project will attract new investment and many more businesses, offering everything from printing services, to catering and freight operations.
Already, she said, Northrop Grumman is planning to establish a centre of advanced defence electronics, valued at $50m, within the airport precinct.
She said Liverpool had the skilled workforce required to both establish and work at the airport, as well as a rich history in defence and manufacturing.
Mayor Waller said the decision to base WSA Co in Liverpool will also assist greatly in the city centre’s revitalisation.
Work is set to begin on the new airport early next year, with the project expected to create in excess of 31,000 jobs.
