Ageing Australians celebrated in new exhibition

Older people are the focus of a new photographic exhibition that has recently opened at Moorebank and Liverpool City libraries.

The exhibition, which has been made possible through funding from the Communities and Justice Department of New South Wales, has been mounted to help celebrate and applaud seniors’ lives, while also challenging the perceptions held about them within the community.

Entitled “The Art of Ageing 2020”, the display comprises 24 portraits taken by six photographers, according to Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller, who added:

“These beautiful portraits really capture the diversity of older Australians and celebrate their contributions to their communities through the wonderful lives they’ve led so far and the very full and rich lives they continue to lead now."

The range of people depicted is broad and the occupations diverse, with the mix ranging from stage, film and TV star Geoff Morrell to a teacher, viticulturalist and chef. Sue Mitchell was curator for the exhibition, which sees the works of photographers Tayla Martin, Trevor Green, Tim White, Julie Slavin, Tina Milson and Kerri Ambler on show.

Talented photographers like these have often been involved in poster printing campaigns that highlight top photographic works.

The 24 featured portraits will be on show at Liverpool City Library, while the works will be presented in a concertina display at Moorebank Library. The free exhibition began on November 3 and will continue until January 6, 2021.
