10-year plan for city centre on public exhibition

A master plan for a new city centre in Liverpool has been released for public display.

The new draft plan proposes a number of innovations including wider footpaths, increased shade cover by trees and dedicated areas for cyclists. Also put forward in the Draft Liverpool City Centre Public Domain Master Plan are suggestions for the improvements in paving materials, Signs, furniture, public art, vegetation and street trees.

Mayor of Liverpool, Wendy Waller said it is now down to the people who stand to benefit from the innovations to have a say and help finalise the city’s 10-year plan. Public exhibitions of plans such as this are often widely advertised via flyer printing in the local area.

She said it is only natural that public spaces and city streets will change as a result of changes to the skyline.

The result of extensive consultation, the plan provides a range of public infrastructure that is needed to accompany a vibrant economy. The changes, the Mayor said, will be of great benefit as Liverpool’s central business district continues to change and grow.

It will also assist the city in making the most of the Georges River, which is one of its most prolific natural assets.

The draft of the master plan will be on display for the public until February 28.
