Older residents in and around Gladesville might like to take the opportunity to get to know their local area better and sign up for a walking tour in March.
Events of local historical interest are often publicised using printing services in the area.
The New South Wales Seniors Festival looks to and celebrates the contributions and roles of older people within the community. Over half a million people attend annually, making it the biggest senior festival in the southern hemisphere.
This year, the festival theme is “Reach Beyond”, and it runs from the 11 until 24 March. There are many events to get involved with, both indoor, outdoor and online; for example, painting, croquet, dancing and the basics of using an iPhone.
The walking tour of Gladesville is aimed at older residents, and will proceed at a leisurely pace. The work is arranged to learn about the history of Gladesville and some of its historical inhabitants. The route may take attendees through St Andrews Presbyterian Church, the War Memorial Gates and Jordan Hall. Walkers will also get to learn more about ex-convict John Glade, after whom the area was named.
The Seniors Festival – Historic Walk through Gladesville is scheduled to take place on Friday, 15 March, from 10am until midday. The walk starts at the Punt Road car park, opposite the Banjo Patterson Cottage. Tickets are free.
