Ryde River Walk upgrade given green light
Regular cyclists and walkers along the Ryde River Walk between the Ryde Bridge and Gladesville Bridge can look forward to a more direct route, following a recent decision by the City of Ryde to finish work on one of the missing links.
The work will replace a section of 150 metres that currently begins at Ross Street in Tennyson Point and diverts upwards via a stairway into residential streets and away from the main 12km route, which runs along the Parramatta River foreshore.
The stairway has been difficult for some and has also eliminated access to a major section of the foreshore. At a recent meeting, councillors delivered a positive vote to construct the missing section – a boardwalk - to be located between Ross Street and Bill Mitchell Park, along Glades Bay.
Funding for the project will be made available through the Passive Parks Capital Works Programme. Mayor Jerome Laxale described the decision as being a win for all residents, adding:
Local attractions such as the Ryde River Walk are often featured on brochure printing aimed at tourists and visitors to the area.
Mayor Laxale said the missing link’s design will assist in preserving the area’s ecological importance.

“The Ryde River Walk is one of Sydney’s great waterfront walks and building its missing link will not only improve this fantastic outdoor space but also ensure the entire community can access this picturesque part of the Parramatta River.”
