Residents to celebrate culture in Gladesville
Residents of Gladesville might be interested in coming together to walk in celebration of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) next month.
The walk will take place along the Wulaba Track in the Glades Bay Reserve, through to the shores of the Parramatta River along the new Riverwalk Track. While walking, attendees will learn about the history of the local Wallumedegal clan and see Aboriginal rock carvings in situ.
NRW helps all Australians learn about shared history and culture, with a view to helping work towards reconciliation. NRW has been active since 1996 and it takes place at the same time each year, bookended by 27 May to 3 June, commemorating the 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. It is now celebrated nationally in schools, places of work and within community organisations.
Local poster printing is often utilised to display pertinent information within a community.
Reconciliation Week – Glades Bay Riverwalk will be taking place on Monday 2nd June, from 10 am until midday. Participants should meet near the corner of Linsley Street and York Street in Gladesville, at the top of the reserve. The event is free to attend, but it is necessary to book a place, as there are limited available. Basic fitness is required over a two-kilometre course, with some uneven ground, slopes, steps and grassy areas to be negotiated.
