Public invited to vote on design ideas for iconic civic site

Residents from Gladesville and throughout the City of Ryde have an opportunity to give the civic hub design of their choice the thumbs up.

The designs have been submitted as part of the architectural competition, Design Our Ryde, being run by Council.

City Mayor Cr Jerome Laxale said the competition attracted interest from the United States, Mexico, Russia, United Kingdom, Spain, China, Hong Kong, Russia and Peru, from which a total of 175 entries were received.

He said the public exhibition gave locals a chance to be a part of the whole transformation process.

Mayor Laxale urged the community to take advantage of the opportunity to have a real say about what will eventuate on the iconic town site which, since 1964, has housed Ryde Council as well as being the heart of the area from as early as 1870.

Opting to vote for a People’s Choice category winner will provide an opportunity to win one of 10 gift cards worth $100.

He said locals have an opportunity of scanning and assessing the entries, which all represent very different concepts, during the public exhibitions to be held at Top Ryde City shopping centre and Macquarie Shopping Centre. They can also be viewed online.

The Mayor said that following the public exhibition that ends on May 5, the people’s choice award recipient plus three other entries will be asked to provide further information on their designs and these will be the subject of another public exhibition and voting.
