Priory redevelopment one step closer

Hunters Hill council recently hosted an on-site meeting at The Priory in Salter Street, near Gladesville, for interested parties to attend a question-and-answer session regarding redevelopment plans.

The Priory is a much-loved historic building adjacent to Riverglade Reserve, located on Tarban Creek between Gladesville, Huntleys Point and Hunters Hill. The 13-hectare reserve is managed under the Riverglade Reserve Plan of Management and includes The Priory. The Priory building and car park are categorised for "general community use", meaning redevelopment as a cafe, restaurant, gallery or education space is permitted.

Under the management plan, The Priory can be leased under strict guidelines for a maximum of 20 years, with a requirement of following the protection of heritage values as set out in the Conservation Management Plan.

The current redevelopment application is for a restaurant and cafe with expanded car parking. The council believes there are significant benefits to the community. The complete restoration of the building is part of the proposal, including improved accessibility for all visitors. The council believes a cafe would be an added attraction for users of the Riverglade Reserve. Developers can improve community understanding of projects such as this by making use of flyer printing.

The development application has been on public exhibition, and lodgement of written submissions closed at 4 pm on February 23rd. An independent party and Heritage NSW will now review the application.
