Playground design puts kids close to nature

Gladesville and surrounding area residents will soon have access to a new playground featuring a nature-inspired theme.

The aim of the new playground, to be located at ELS Hall Park adjacent to Field No.1, is to encourage kids to explore and have fun in the great outdoors, according to City of Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale, who said it would help very young children connect with nature.

A conceptual graphic design of the project was created following extensive consultation with the community, which included special workshops held for kids.

As a result, the playground is to include four separate zones. These are a soft-fall area for toddlers, slides and climbing in an active zone, water play, and a relaxed area with swings.

Mayor Laxale said the design has been created to both encourage and inspire kids to engage in imaginative and creative outdoor play.

The nature-inspired play area, he said, will also include a number of unique features such as a major sculpture component.

Integrated into the playground’s design, the sculpture will present two metal `cubbies’ which will be wrapped in cladding. They will then be connected via the use of a net structure.

The `cubbie’ will represent a fun addition to the playground by allowing kids the opportunity to climb through and explore its various layers.

Work on the new playground is expected to begin soon.
