Gladesville’s local council, the City of Ryde, is offering the community a free Furniture Repair Workshop this August, as part of its programme called ‘Waste Education’.
The workshop will be facilitated by employees from The Bower, who will educate participants on the basics of resolving common problems that occur with furniture made from timber. Local council events such as this can be promoted effectively via flyer printing, with Flyers placed in areas that receive high foot traffic, such as community halls, local supermarkets and recreation centres.
The Bower is a non-for-profit charity that aims to reduce landfill by focusing on reusing and repairing. It has been operating in Sydney for almost 23 years and has won two awards at the NSW Green Globe Awards – the Premier’s Award for Environmental Excellence and the Community Leadership Award.
Workshop attendees can expect to learn how to repair chairs that are wobbly and tabletops that have split, along with fixing parts or pieces that have broken. Participants are requested to bring a portable furniture piece from their homes so that they can practice their new skills during the workshop. At the end of the session, all attendees will receive a handout to take home.
The Furniture Repair workshop is free to attend, but bookings are required on the City of Ryde Council website, as spaces are limited. The event will be held on Saturday, 14th August from 10am to 12pm. It will take place at the North Ryde School of Arts Community Hall, which is located on 201 Coxs Road in North Ryde.
