The Gladesville Returned and Services League (RSL) is hoping to get the go-ahead for a new development that will give it extra space for youth activities.
The organisation is planning to revamp the current youth centre in Western Crescent to replace a current building, which it feels is too small for its use.
The RSL has previously applied to construct a new building in a plan that also involved changes to a council-owned car park. That scheme raised objections from the local community, but the new planning application does not include the car park.
The plan submitted involves redeveloping the site from two storeys to a nine-storey building, which would also house 34 units for older people above the youth centre.
Around 55 parking spaces will be provided for club members, along with 44 for residents.
The youth club currently caters for around 700 people, but RSL general manager Ashley Parmenter told the Northern District Times that they often had to turn people away because the building was too small.
If the plan is approved, the RSL could use poster printing or flyer printing to keep locals and club users up to date with building work and any changes to club timetables during construction.
The plans have been presented to Ryde City Council and, if approved, work is likely to be completed by April 2018. The plans will be made available for public comment as part of the planning process.
