Mindfulness to be taught in Gladesville

Fans of all things meditative and mindful in the Gladesville area may be eager to sign up for the twelve-week meditation teacher training course in March.

Meditation is the art of focusing on a particular thought, object or activity to learn attentiveness and thus become practised in coming to an emotionally calm state. Meditation and mindfulness are practised in many Eastern religions and the techniques have spread to other cultures, where they are presently used in business and health arenas. Meditation is thought to potentially reduce modern conceits such as stress, anxiety and depression. It may also be conducive to peace and well-being.

In the Meditation Teacher Training Course, skills such as self-awareness, knowledge of types of meditation and the science behind them, planning lessons at all levels and communicating information effectively are taught. There are no prerequisites for signing up to the course, although it is useful for attendees to have personal experience of meditation and mindfulness. Textbooks such as the one accompanying the course are often produced using local printing services.

The next Meditation Teacher Training Course takes place at the Sydney Institute of Meditation, 53 Western Crescent, Gladesville, from March 9. The course costs from $1050. The next in-person course lasts for twelve weeks and comprises 24 hours of contact time and 56 hours of private study.
