Gladesville residents can now enjoy a more pleasant walk along the Ryde River, with upgrades to the local section of the Ryde River Walk officially last month.
A community party was held in October celebrate the completion of the work on a two-kilometre section between Banjo Paterson Park and Bill Mitchell Park, which also takes in Glades Bay and Looking Glass Bay.
The council has restored many of the original dirt paths, replacing them with new all-weather pathways and installing Signs along the trail to help walkers and cyclists find their way.
A boardwalk through a section of mangroves, stairs and bridges has also been added to make the walk easier and to improve access from surrounding streets, and several areas have been landscaped.
The improvements are part of the Ryde River Walk project, which is being completed by the City of Ryde Council with help from State and Federal Government.
The project began in 2007 and is set to cost around $5m, with the recent section upgrades costing $1.8m. When it is complete, the walk will stretch for 12 kilometres along the Parramatta River from Gladesville Bridge to Ryde Bridge.
The route is designed for shared use between walkers and cyclists and will allow locals easier access to parks, playgrounds and natural reserves, while also highlighting sites of importance for those interested in Aboriginal culture.Get a Free Quote for Signs
