Community-minded activists in the community who live in the vicinity of Gladesviile Reserve will probably want to join in an effort to help clear up the area and in so doing, raise awareness of reducing rubbish and recycling.
Clean Up Australia Day 2025 is marked all over the country, on 2nd March. It aims to put the environment at its core, encouraging residents to help litter pick in their local area.
The initiative was started over thirty years ago by sailing fan, Ian Kiernan. He was shocked at the amount of rubbish in the sea and thus started a community event with co-founder Kim McKay, leading to the first national Clean Up Day Australia in 1990. To date, nearly forty million hours of volunteering has been spent on Clean Up activities.
Everyone is welcome at the litter pick, from young to old. The events lasts for two hours but participants are welcome to join in for just part of the time.
Poster printing is one way in which national and local campaigns are advertised to the wider community.
Clean Up Australia Day is taking place on Sunday 2nd March, from 9am until 11am. The meeting point is the Council access, opposite Riverside High Girl’s High School on Gladesville Reserve, corner of Huntley’s Point Road and Crown Street, Henley, 2111. Those who would like to come along should register at the Clean Up Australia Day website. Suitable footwear, a hat and water are advisable for all. The Council provides litter Bags and gloves for all.
