City of Ryde to hold plastic-free workshop

Gladesville residents can learn about going plastic free at a workshop being held by the City of Ryde’s Waste Department.

Plastic Forms the basis of many products ranging from storage containers for food to Packaging material for clothing and household items. A large amount of plastic ends up in landfill and due to its composition, plastic can take a long time to degrade. As plastic degrades, it releases toxins that can pose harm to living organisms on land and water.

Due to the negative effects of plastic, the workshop will provide participants with alternatives to plastic such as the use of beeswax for wrapping food instead of plastic storage containers.

The plastic-free workshop is for City of Ryde residents only. Participants are advised to bring a notepad, pen, their own water bottle, and a cup for morning tea. Although the event is free to attend, it is mandatory that individuals register online. It is recommended to book in advance due to limited places with bookings opening up on May 27th.

The plastic-free workshop will be held on Saturday 27th June at the North Ryde School of Arts Community Hall located on 201 Coxs Road. It will run from 9:45am to 12pm. This workshop is part of a series of workshops and sessions being run by the City of Ryde as part of the Waste Education workshop.
