Aged care residents to hold annual art show

An art exhibition will be held in October in Gladesville.

The annual exhibition is being run as part of the Twilight Aged Care facility’s Art Therapy Programme and will also include a cocktail party. Residents from the facility will be able showcase their talents with works of art on display to members of the local community.

The programme is an art-based cognitive therapy initiative, which aims to support residents who are living with dementia, depression or anxiety. Positive outcomes have been observed in residents engaging in creative arts, with improvements noted in cognition and improved social behaviour.

Last year’s event raised over $2,000 which was put back into the art therapy programme and also used to support further initiatives of the facility. Poster printing may be used to advertise events such as this.

Dementia is the largest cause of disability in older Australians with half of the aged care population now living with dementia. The exhibition will allow residents the opportunity to engage with members of the public and aims to facilitate a sense of community and inclusion.

The art is for sale and it is hoped that this year’s event will be just as successful as last year.

Drinks will be served alongside canapes on arrival with the exhibition to be held at the Twilight Aged Care facility on Tuesday 29th October at 6pm.
