The individuals working on the North West Rail Link project, which is to include a new rapid transport station at Castle Hill, New South Wales, have been acknowledged with three major awards.
The accolades included the 2014 Planning Institute of Australia (NSW) for education, the 2014 International Association of Public Participation Award for Transport, and the 2014 Banksia Award for Innovation in Social Infrastructure.
Project Director Rodd Staples said the team’s commitment to keeping the community involved and updated throughout the delivery of the $83 billion project had been recognised by the public participation award for transport.
When announcing the 2014 Banksia Award for Innovation in Social Infrastructure, awarded for projects in excess of $100 million, judges said the project provided an integrated approach to sustainability in operation, construction and design for a transport project.
The team’s education program called Fast Tracking the Future, which included regular community displays featuring the North West Rail Link and its progress, was also recognised with the Planning Institute of Australia (NSW) for education award.
Mr Staples said with work already well underway on the 15km of twin tunnels between Epping, through Castle Hill to Bella Vista, it was important to keep the community informed.
Flyer printing and news reports were among the popular ways to keep community members updated.
