Castle Hill residents are sure to be delighted with news that the long-awaited widening of Showground Rd is set to begin later this month.
A development years in the making, The Hills Shire Council and the state government have finally given the green light to the potentially beneficial project, which will include the expansion of at least four lanes located between Old Northern Road and Carrington Road.
Signs have been placed to announce the impending roadwork, which will cost $41m to complete. Road Signs state that Roads and Maritime Services will manage the substantial alterations, with construction to be spearheaded by Seymour White Constructions.
The intersection of Showground Rd and Pennant St is to be modified to allow for further bus priority measures and extra turning lanes, while the intersection at Showground Rd and Britannia Rd will see the introduction of left-in and left-out access only. Also, new sets of traffic lights are to be placed at the intersections of Showground Rd and Rowallan Ave, and Showground Rd and Kentwell Ave/Cheriton Ave.
Ray Williams, State Liberal MP for Castle Hill, has expressed his excitement that work on the project is about to get underway. The MP said he believed Castle Hill residents would be rejoicing at the upgrade, which he claimed would bring a stop to peak-hour gridlock and provide a jump in productivity to local businesses relying on the road.
Williams advised locals to be aware of disruptions to traffic flow set to occur when construction commences.
A roadside sign states the project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
