Residents in Brookvale, New South Wales, could benefit from the establishment of a new Police Citizens Youth Club by Warringah Council.
Work has already begun on the project, which will also include a car park and community facility.
Quality and durability are key aims at the FJMT-designed construction which, when completed, will also provide additional police resources and facilities for at-risk youth and the community in general.
Design features will include green walls to camouflage the car park from direct view from the street, and an innovative curved roof.
The new facilities will also incorporate a drop-in centre and study area for youths, two indoor sports courts, a café, a PCYC youth counselling space and several multi-purpose rooms for use by the community.
Multi-level parking for up to 348 cars will also be provided.
The council plans to keep residents up-to-date with the centre’s building progress via its website as well as flyer printing.
The project was earmarked to receive state government funding by the Premier Barry O’Farrell in 2012.
In addition to a state government grant, the project will also receive funding from the proceeds of the Northern Beaches Hospital site’s compulsory acquisition, in addition to a number of other sources.
Full project details are available on the Warringah Council website. The new facilities are expected to be completed within 18 months.
