Warringah Golf Course faces uncertain future

North Beaches Council (NBC) suggestions puts the future of Warringah Golf Course in doubt.

The NBC has suggested that the golf course in question could be sliced in half. Such a move might free up space for sports fields. It is thought that Sydney has a shortage of open space. Warringah Golf Club may use a Brookvale Print company to get its message out to interested parties. A public consultation should be concluded quite soon. However, Scott Campbell, the president of the golf club, has been opposed to any hasty decision making. Campbell admitted:

"We acknowledge that we could be a solution, but we don't believe that they should be doing it in the short term – it would be more the medium to long term to give us a bit more surety to attract membership and retain social play.”

Campbell was concerned that the current proposals from the authorities might limit his scope for action. This is because the new policy has the potential to interfere with long-term planning. Further, Mr Campbell has maintained that his club has retained a healthy number of members.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Milsom, secretary for the Manly Warringah Pittwater Sporting Union (MWPSU), has endorsed the use of golf course space. This is because the MWPSU represents a variety of different sports. Milsom does not envisage that the final decision should be made for some time.
