The council has extended an invitation to creative businesses, musicians, designers and makers to take part in its Creative Open programme, a new event that has been introduced to showcase Northern Beaches grassroots talent and the creative sector.
Local culture and art businesses are urged to apply, including editing and film suites, recording studios, galleries, artist studies and workshops related to the sector, such as digital labs and screen printers.
Mayor of Northern Beaches Michael Regan said the list of creative businesses could also include surfboard shapers, bookshops, designers and even relevant food, venues and cafes. He said growing cultural tourism, while also supporting the area's unique and active cultural sector, were major aims of the event, and he added:
“It’s a great opportunity to go behind the scenes, see the artists and businesses in situ, learn about their industry and witness first hand their skills and the creation of their work.”
Creative micro-hubs will be established in areas such as Avalon, Manly, Mona Vale and Brookvale, with activities and venues within easy walking distance of each other. Poster printing campaigns are often used to help identify participating businesses in programmes such as this.
Creative Open will be held from August 14 to 15 and August 21 to 22. Potential applicants can also attend a special information session to be held at Manly Art Gallery and Museum from 6pm on June 3.
