Residents embrace innovative library programme

Brookvale residents are among 9,500 households to have benefitted from Northern Beaches Council's Library 2U programme during its first month of operation.

Implemented and developed as a viable alternative to physically visiting library branches that have been closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme has been hailed a great success by Mayor Michael Regan, who said:

“Given the success of the Library 2U program, I’ve also heard other Councils across Sydney are looking to potentially echo what we have done, so it’s great to be pioneers in what are challenging times for many people.’’

To take part in the service, residents were required to make their requests online. Selections could be for a specific book listed in the catalogue or users may have preferred a librarian's choice. The request was then delivered and readers had four weeks before library staff return to collect them.

Since the programme was rolled out in April, a total of 21,133 Books, CDs and DVDs have been delivered to residents throughout the Northern Beaches. Innovative council services such as Library 2U are often advertised online and via flyer printing campaigns. The Mayor said Council was delighted with the enthusiastic response from residents.

Mayor Regan said the local libraries were always well supported by the community and the way the public had embraced the new library service was fantastic.
