Northern Beaches set to welcome world's top surfers

Brookvale residents will be among many residents on the Northern Beaches to be close to the action of April's World Surf League championships at North Narrabeen.

Considered to be the ultimate in surfing competitions, the tour event is anticipated to draw a huge following both live and during worldwide television coverage, while the local economy is also expected to benefit from a boost of more than $10 million.

The event's elite athletes, who have an enormous following within the world of surfing, will be co-sponsored by the NSW Government and Northern Beaches Council.

Mayor of Northern Beaches Michael Regan said it was a great coup to secure the event and to be able to showcase the area for 10 days on what will be a world stage. He added:

“We welcome this opportunity and the promise of much-needed economic activity and jobs for our local businesses. It will be a great boost to the morale of the local community who were hit hard by the COVID-induced three-week lockdown at Christmas.”

Major surfing events such as this have often been widely advertised by strategic brochure printing campaigns.

To be held from April 16 to 26, the event will see more than 50 of the world's top surfers take to the surf for a chance at the $1 million in prize money, including Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore, Gabriel Medina, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Julian Wilson and Owen Wright.
