A draft masterplan, complete with graphic design, has been released for the area encompassing the Brookvale town centre.
Northern Beaches Council said the aim of the plan is to revitalise the town centre which hosts one of the area’s fastest growing business communities.
The proposed town centre plan will also, according to a spokesperson, make way for additional mixed use development in the vicinity of the incoming B-Line bus centre.
The move is expected to create a night-time economy, as well as retain and boost employment spaces.
The spokesman said the masterplan would not affect the Warringah Mall, which is one of the area’s major employers and biggest retail centres, servicing thousands of residents and visitors on the Northern Beaches.
In a positive step towards retaining Brookvale’s industrial roots, new developments of up to six stories for residential living would have an affordable rental housing target of 10%.
Open spaces and new parks would also be included.
According to the spokesman, the plan will provide a guide to any future development in the Brookvale area, and also to any changes in land use with the aim of ensuring a sustainable employment-focussed and vibrant centre.
The full details and designs of the Brookvale town centre area draft masterplan will be released for community consultation and comment at a later date to be confirmed by council.
