Libraries devote special spaces for HSC students

Students from Brookvale, New South Wales and surrounding areas were given an opportunity recently to prepare for their 2015 Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations in a special library environment set up just for them.

Warringah Mall and Belrose Council library branches participated in the programme, which invited HSC students to take advantage of access to a HSC tutor and dedicated study space in a special HSC Lock In.

A youth support group representative from Headspace was also on hand to provide helpful tips on managing stress.

According to Warringah Mayor Michael Regan, the experience was about more than just attending with note pads and Pens, because it also provided students with an opportunity to chill out and relax, with free pizza served.

He said as part of the activities, Year 11 and 12 pupils took part in two workshops that covered the topic of stress management using mindfulness.

The free workshops were conducted by headspace in conjunction with Mental Health Month in October, and were aimed at teaching participants invaluable lessons on meditation, compassion cultivation, and active listening.

Mayor Regan praised the HSC programme claiming students were under great pressure during examination time and stress management was an important factor that could assist in improving results and the experience as a whole.

The libraries also offered helpful resources, which included printing services, digital printing, free computers and Wi-Fi, and a special collection of High School Books.
