Brookvale, New South Wales’ entries in the 2015 Warringah Art Prize are among a gallery of creative works on display at the Warringah Creative Space.
The prestigious art exhibition, which is the longest running on the northern beaches, has drawn so much interest this year that the 160 original photographs, sculptures, prints and paintings entered have been split into two different exhibitions.
Warringah Mayor Michael Regan said the annual exhibition provided a showcase of artistic residents’ creativity and self-expression, and was a much anticipated event on the community calendar.
He said the first display would feature entries in the Waste to Art and Youth category, which was open to established and first-time artists.
The mayor said the popular and growing category showcased artworks that included jewellery, collage, clothing and sculptures.
Catalogue printing for the second part of the exhibition, which runs from August 28 to September 6, reveals a mix of artistic genres such as mixed media, photography, drawing, and paint.
Prize money has been doubled to over $22,000 in art supplies, classes, and cash for this year’s competition and judges will include internationally acclaimed artists Joshua Yeldham and Geoff Harvey. They will be joined by Michael Hedger, who is Manly Gallery’s Director.
Harvey said the exceptional standard of artworks entered will make the judges’ job to select an overall winner extremely difficult. Mayor Regan, meanwhile, has encouraged everyone to visit the free exhibition and support local artists.
