Major construction in Sydney’s Green Square project looks set to start before Christmas, with work scheduled to start on up to 10 new buildings, the city’s council has announced.
Green Square will be the city’s first new town centre in more than 100 years, and will bring new housing and community facilities to an area south of the city centre.
Sydney’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the start of work on the widely anticipated project would see the area quickly transform from its current industrial look. Private developers will carry out some of the work, but the City of Sydney council is also heavily involved in the project, which will include several new community facilities.
Residents from surrounding areas such as Alexandria, which includes part of the Green Square development area, will no doubt benefit from the new infrastructure and resources provided by the development.
The designers of a library and public plaza have already been announced following a competition, and a similar competition has recently been launched to find the designers for an aquatic centre and sports park.
Printing services have been used to keep residents up to date on the progress of the project so far, and will be important to inform locals as building begins. Poster printing could also be used at each site to show what the finished building will look like.
