Alexandria residents planning to head into the city centre for the New Year’s Eve celebrations can let their friends and loved ones see a special message this year.
Using the theme Inspire and the hashtag #SydNYE, residents can send their message about how the city will inspire them for the coming year.
The tweets will be projected onto the pylons of Sydney Harbour Bridge during the city’s huge New Year’s Eve party.
Those who wish to attend can plan their visit as usual using the Sydney New Year’s Eve website, which features travel updates and tips on the best viewing points, but this year, printing services have also been used to create a new printed guide to the events.
This can be found at Sydney airport and transport hubs, as well as at tourist information kiosks, and the City’s libraries and community centres.
The 2014 celebrations will feature three firework displays with more than seven tonnes of fireworks being used.
One will take place at 9pm for families wishing to enjoy the fun together, while a second small show will be held at 10.40pm. The traditional midnight display will also include the Bridge Effect, which involves more than 13 metres of LED rope lights.
This year, the celebrations will again support Engineers Without Borders Australia, an organisation that helps developing countries with infrastructure problems such as communications and sanitation.
