The proposal by the State's Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC), and with Sydney City's subsequent improvements, is now set to be presented for public consultation within the community.
The move to put it on public exhibition for 60 days prior to final approval has been described by Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore as a major milestone. She said the project had been the focus of community concern and extensive discussion since it was in its early development stages in 2011.
Moore said the process had been complex and drawn out, but the city had always been prepared to listen to ensure a good outcome, adding:
“Our emphasis has always been on increasing the amount of social and affordable housing as part of the redevelopment, ensuring high quality streets and public spaces, maximising access to sunlight, and delivering sustainable and accessible buildings.”
Important proposals such as this that are presented to the public have often been accompanied by a graphic design of the development to give clarity to what is proposed.
According to City of Sydney's Peter John Cantrill, the proposal follows assessment of plans that advocated for the construction of nine towers, some of which would have been 30 storeys high. This, he said, would have resulted in a less than favourable outcome for people living in the area.
