Alexandria area may find themselves interested in signing up for free cookery and nutrition courses this coming October.
Everyone knows that understanding food and nutrition plays a key part in being able to prepare cost-effective healthy meals with minimum waste. At the Cliff Noble Community Centre, local people can come and learn about buying food on a budget, understanding the labels, storing the food safely and picking up cooking skills. Each week, attendees will learn about food, how to cook it and then will share what has been produced in a sociable meal at the end of the session.
Classes are put on by the OzHarvest nutrition, education skills training (NEST) program. Classes follow the Australian Dietary Guidelines, and in the last session, participants receive a certificate and an Everyday Cookbook, which may well be produced locally at nearby Print shops.
NEST has had a lasting effect – of those attending classes, statistics show that 67% increased their intake of healthy food and drinks, while 95% were more confident to make budget-friendly food choices.
The six-week cooking and nutrition program starts on Wednesday, October 4 and ends on Wednesday, November 8. The venue is the Cliff Noble Community Centre, Corner of Renwick and Suttor Streets, Alexandria, NSW 2015. The event is free, but it is necessary to book a place. Food and equipment will be provided by the organisers.Get a Free Quote for Print
