Sydney City Council has recently endorsed and released initial designs for a new people-friendly, green and high-tech precinct, which will now be the focus of a joint effort of the State Government and its subsidiary and substantial landowner of the site, Transport of New South Wales, to make the Central Square a reality.
The chance to create a public square surfaced as a result of the State Government's redevelopment plans for Central Station and its desire to create a precinct on what was once transport land, according to Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore. He said the public square will also complement plans by the NSW Government for Tech Central, an innovation and technology precinct adjacent to Central Station, and he added:
“High quality public open space is essential for our global city and good for our economy, environment and wellbeing. By creating wonderful public spaces, we ensure Sydney is an attractive place for businesses, residents and visitors.”
New precincts such as this are often the subject of new signage and materials sourced from printing services to boost visitor and resident awareness.
The ultimate design of Central Square focuses on four connected areas, incorporating Central Walk West, Lower Square, Upper Square and Railway Square, and aims to create a comfortable and green public space to be enjoyed by all.
